College of Law student Jeannine Holmes (J.D. ’22) has made history as the first Black editor-in-chief of the Law Review.
Eight Georgia State University Perimeter College students have been named semifinalists for the national Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Perimeter College students represent all but one of the semifinalists chosen from Georgia. They are among 406 semifinalists selected from more than 1,500 applicants attending 398 community colleges in 44 states and the District of Columbia.
Georgia State University nursing students are playing an essential role in protecting Atlanta-area older adults against COVID-19. Nursing students and faculty worked with clinical partner Ethne Health, which provides health care for those without health care access and health insurance in the Clarkston area, to vaccinate more than 150 older adults daily over two three-day weeks.
Joshua Fife, an alumnus of Georgia State University who graduated in 2019 with a degree in journalism, has received the Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship. Fife is one of 45 Pickering Fellows selected for 2021 from institutions including Columbia, Georgetown, Vanderbilt and the University of California, Berkeley.
Senior Nitheyaa Shree, a neuroscience major from Duluth, Ga., has been named Georgia State University’s first Marshall Scholar. The scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate academic merit and leadership and ambassador potential.
Lenval Duffus, a rising senior from Snellville, Ga., majoring in political science, is the first recipient of the Panther PRIME Scholarship, from the partnership program between Georgia State’s Honors College and Multicultural Center that supports the educational and professional goals of African American male students and provides both mentorship and leadership opportunities.
“It’s an exceptionally strong collective of Black men from a variety of different backgrounds who constantly push each other toward high goals and foster each other’s academic and personal growth,” Duffus said. “It feels really enriching to be part of an organization that gives back to the GSU community while also speaking up on issues that affect the Black community.”
In her latest book, “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents,” Pulitzer Prize-winning author Isabel Wilkerson acknowledges students and the dean in the Honors College at Georgia State University.
Wilkerson thanks Interim Dean Sarah Cook and three Presidential Scholars: Noah Britton, Savannah Rogers and Clay Voytek.
“In the final weeks and months of my completing the manuscript, they spent time and energy researching last-minute questions and leads,” Wilkerson wrote. “Noah and Clay further dedicated themselves to additional weeks of fastidious fact-checking and, by the time the work was done, had taken up the cause of the books as their own.”
