As Atlanta marks the one-year anniversary of a horrific attack on the Asian and Asian American community, we wish to share several resources for those affected who may find this day difficult and painful. As stated by former President Mark Becker last year, the shootings were a clear reminder that the Georgia State community must commit to foster a culture of respect for all, and to stand together against attacks on our Asian American community as well as other communities that have suffered the pain and loss of violence and injustice.
We also would like to share an event that you may find impactful later this month as Georgia State prepares to observe its Asian/Pacific Islander/Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month (you'll receive more information soon about Georgia State's observance. The university celebrates the month in April rather than May, so that more students may participate):
Building Bridges - African and Asian Descended Allies Event, March 30
The Asian/Asian American Faculty Identity Group and the Department of Middle and Secondary Education of the College of Education and Human Development are sponsoring the Building Bridges - African and Asian Descended Allies Event, on March 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 25 Park Place, Room 223.
The event will feature timely conversations amid hate crimes, inclusive discussions for intersectional collaborations, and will allow attendees to enjoy music, food and book prizes.
The event is co-sponsored by the College of Education & Human Development, the Center for Studies on Africa and Its Diaspora, AAAFIG, the Department of Kinesiology and Health, and the Department of Middle and Secondary Education.

And in the words of Dr. Becker last year:
Georgia State is built on the strength of a diverse community that works together to advance knowledge and society through education and scholarship, and it is at times like this that we recommit ourselves to the values of open inquiry and dialogue. Our Georgia State community exemplifies the promise of a brighter future as our society grapples with another episode of targeted violence and senseless murders. We cannot give into despair, instead we must light the way ahead.
