Managers today must be able to successfully navigate workplaces and communities peopled by individuals with a rich diversity of backgrounds and experiences including race, gender, sexual orientation, generational and other differences that make each of us unique and valuable to their organizations.
Leaders who are skilled in managing diversity and promoting equity and inclusion can harness the challenges and barriers these differences may bring to a productive work environment and strengthen organizational effectiveness and outcomes.
PMAP 8921: Leading Equity, Diversity & Inclusion in Organizations is designed to provide graduate-level students with the theoretical and experiential knowledge and skills necessary to successfully lead DEI efforts in their organizations. Guest lecturers from a variety of fields led by Dr. Sharon Hill, a clinical associate professor in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, will show students how to analyze organizational approaches to leading DEI efforts and recommend strategies that will create more equitable experiences and outcomes.
“The world is more diverse than ever; therefore, our leaders must be prepared to embrace and build on that reality,” Dr. Hill said. “Organizational work environments that promote DEI are more innovative, collaborative and supportive. Organizations that don’t implement DEI practices miss out on opportunities to fully tap into the potential of their employees. Students will learn that when leaders make DEI a priority, everyone benefits, including clients, employees and the community.”
Class begins Fall Semester 2021. For more information, contact Dr. Sharon Hill at [email protected] or to register, go to https://paws.gsu.edu/.
