From President Mark Becker, March 22, 2021:
As we return from Spring Break, our hearts go out to the Asian American community for the senseless act of violence in the Atlanta community. Last week’s shootings are the most recent reminder we must all commit ourselves to fostering a culture built on respect and appreciation of all people, one that is free of the racism that degrades our society. We must stand together against attacks on our Asian American community as well as other communities that have suffered the pain and loss of violence and injustice.
Georgia State is built on the strength of a diverse community that works together to advance knowledge and society through education and scholarship, and it is at times like this that we recommit ourselves to the values of open inquiry and dialogue. Our Georgia State community exemplifies the promise of a brighter future as our society grapples with another episode of targeted violence and senseless murders. We cannot give into despair, instead we must light the way ahead.
The Multicultural Center Pop Talks event Wednesday, March 24 at 12:15 p.m. has been expanded into a community conversation focusing on support and resources for Asian and Asian American students. Register here.
