From the Office of the Provost
After a long summer of social and racial unrest, hard conversations and creative ideas, it is time for us to put our words into actions. Based on the dedicated work of the Task Force for Racial Equality, the Next Generation of Faculty Implementation Steering Committee and recommendations from faculty, staff and students, we have created an action plan with next steps to achieve a truly diverse, equitable and inclusive university environment.
You can access the action plan, which addresses each recommendation of the Task Force for Racial Equality, at Belonging@GSU. I hope you will take the time to read it and become engaged where appropriate. We have already begun to act on these commitments and will be reaching across our campuses to collaborate as we move forward. We will report back periodically to the university community on our progress.
As reflected in the action plan, Georgia State this year will host a series of Diversity Dialogues, important conversations meant to engage our community and help create pathways to eradicate structural racism. In the first session on Sept. 30 at 2 p.m., President Becker will discuss the university’s plan to address the recommendations of the Task Force for Racial Equality, listen to the Georgia State community’s concerns and engage in conversation about issues relating to our campus climate.
I cannot thank enough all the individuals around the university who have worked tirelessly to reach this point, most especially the members of the Task Force for Racial Equality who worked this summer to respond to this critical moment. This has truly been and will continue to be a team effort that requires the engagement of our entire community. I hope everyone will get involved as we strive for social justice and inclusive excellence for students, faculty and staff at Georgia State and around the Atlanta community.
Best,
Wendy Hensel
