Dear university community,
I am pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Huanbiao Mo as dean of the Byrdine F. Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions, effective July 1.
As interim dean of the Lewis College, he has advanced its well-earned reputation for excellence in preparing the next generation of health professionals and scholars. He established a research council to help support research activities and interdisciplinary collaboration and committees to support and expand clinical education and partnerships. Dr. Mo also has worked to increase the capacity of Panther’s Pantry, which serves Georgia State students who face food insecurity.
Prior to his role as interim dean, Dr. Mo was chair of the Department of Nutrition from 2014 through 2019 and holds a faculty appointment as professor of nutrition with a joint appointment in the Department of Chemistry. He is also an associate member of the Center for Neuroinflammation and Cardiometabolic Diseases, the Center for Diagnostics and Therapeutics, and the Neuroscience Institute, as well as an affiliate member of the Gerontology Institute. Before arriving at Georgia State in 2014, he was as a professor at Texas Women’s University and held adjunct and visiting appointments at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Wenzhou Medical University in China, Universiti Teknologi MARA in Malaysia and the University of California-Los Angeles.
Dr. Mo holds a Ph.D. in nutritional sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a master of science degree from the Chinese Academy of Science, and a bachelor of science degree from Fudan University in Shanghai, China.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Mo upon his appointment as dean of the Lewis College. President Becker and I are confident that under his leadership the Lewis College’s tradition of excellence and growth will continue.
